From 1921 to 1929, W. B. Yeats lived with his family in this fifteenth- or sixteenth-century Norman tower, Thoor Ballylee, in County Galway, not far from Coole Park.

Where Yeats eulogized Parnell, the Montreal Group lambasted the Canadian Authors’ Association for using “publicity, advertising and the methods of big business” to foster Canada’s young literature. Group members went on to win a Pulitzer Prize and five Governor General’s Awards, among other accolades. According to the Encyclopedia, the Montreal Group of poets “continued to influence the writing of poetry in Canada until the end of the 20th century.” Indeed, because that group and Yeats himself had a major impact on the work of poet and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, the Yeatsian influence would appear to be alive and thriving in twenty-first-century Canada.
